Course Description

DMSVTD 200 | Sonographer Safety Total: 8 Hours | E-Lecture: 0 Hours | E-lab: 0 Hours | On Site Lab: 8 Hours This course provides a comprehensive exploration of essential safety practices for sonographers, emphasizing a patient-centered approach to maintaining a safe and healthy work environment. Students will learn effective handwashing techniques, rigorous infection control protocols, and the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) to prevent the transmission of infectious diseases, while fostering an understanding of how these practices support overall patient well-being. The course also covers cleaning and disinfecting ultrasound equipment and workspaces, managing exposure to bloodborne pathogens, and handling other hazardous materials commonly encountered in clinical settings with mindfulness and care. In alignment with holistic practices, students will explore strategies to recognize and manage workplace stress, reduce the risk of musculoskeletal disorders, and promote physical and mental well-being. By the end of this course, students will be equipped with the knowledge and skills to ensure their safety, enhance patient care, and contribute to a compliant, supportive, and health-focused work environment.
