Course Description

DMSVTD 290 | Introduction to Ultrasound Research Total: 8 Hours | E- Lecture: 4 Hours | E-Lab: 4 Hours | On Site Lab: 0 Hours This course introduces students to research fundamentals within the field of diagnostic ultrasound and diagnostology. Emphasizing critical thinking and scientific inquiry, students will explore core research methodologies, literature review techniques, and the ethical responsibilities of clinical research. The course prepares students to evaluate existing studies and understand the role of evidence-based practice in improving patient outcomes and advancing the field. Under faculty guidance, each student will complete a capstone project prior to graduation, applying foundational research skills to a selected topic. Project themes may include subjects such as Multiple Sclerosis, Multiple Myeloma, Diagnostic Ionizing Radiation Exposure, Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Prognosis, Benign Tumors, Fat Embolism, Sleep and Ultrasound, Global Cancer Diagnostics, or other topics approved by the Program Director. As an alternative to individual projects, students may also elect to participate in The Human Microbe Project, a collaborative research track that investigates the roles of bacteria, fungi, protozoa, parasites, and viruses in human health. This group project emphasizes direct observation, spectral analysis, and ecological interpretation of microbial behavior, encouraging students to develop novel insights into how microorganisms influence adaptation, resilience, and systemic balance. Note: ADOM students may participate in voluntary observational studies related to consumer health technologies. These are educational activities and are not part of the required curriculum or clinical training.
