Course Description

DMSVTD 260 | Psychology & Human Behavior Total: 8 Hours | E- Lecture: 4 Hours | E-Lab: 4 Hours | On Site Lab: 0 Hours This course provides a comprehensive introduction to the principles of psychology and human behavior. Students will explore topics such as neuroscience, memory, learning processes, personality development, and psychological disorders, with an emphasis on how these factors influence health and patient care. The curriculum highlights the critical role of emotions in human biology and behavior, examining how emotional states regulate hormones, immune responses, resilience, and overall physiological balance. Students will study how emotional processes shape decision-making, interpersonal relationships, and recovery, and consider the impact of emotional absence or dysregulation on health outcomes. A key area of focus is addiction as a psychological and physiological condition, exploring its roots in reward pathways, emotional regulation, and coping behaviors. Students will analyze how substance use and behavioral addictions alter brain function, disrupt emotional balance, and affect long-term health, as well as strategies for prevention, intervention, and recovery. Through a blend of theoretical knowledge and applied practice, the course emphasizes the psychological, emotional, and social aspects of behavior while encouraging culturally sensitive and professional approaches to patient care. At the end, students will also engage in a perspective exercise on self-image, emotions, and views of life and death, and learn methods for recognizing deception through analysis of verbal patterns, body language, and emotional cues to strengthen communication skills and patient advocacy.
