Course Description
DMSVTD 590 | Introduction to Obstetric Ultrasound Total: 20 Hours | E-Lecture: 6 Hours | E-Lab: 6 Hours | On Site Lab: 8 Hours This course explores the application of ultrasound in obstetrics, equipping students with the skills to perform prenatal imaging and fetal growth assessments while deepening their understanding of maternal and fetal health. Students will learn to conduct detailed obstetric scans across various gestational ages, assess fetal anatomy and biometry, and evaluate maternal-fetal circulation to support comprehensive pregnancy monitoring. The curriculum emphasizes ultrasound’s role in promoting healthy pregnancies through early detection of developmental variations and informed prenatal care. Laboratory sessions utilize simulation phantoms, virtual training tools, and case studies to provide hands-on experience in fetal biometry, anatomy assessment, and image interpretation. When available, volunteer models may be incorporated to supplement learning with real-time scanning opportunities. By the end of the course, students will be prepared to contribute to prenatal care with technical accuracy, clinical sensitivity, and a focus on both maternal and fetal outcomes.
