Course Description

DMSVTD 630 | Pulmonary Ultrasound & Vasculature Total: 20 Hours | E-Lecture: 6 Hours | E-Lab: 6 Hours | On Site Lab: 8 Hours This course provides a focused study of pulmonary ultrasound and thoracic vasculature, emphasizing direct lung scanning as a critical diagnostic tool. Students will learn to recognize core ultrasound signs such as lung sliding, A-lines, B-lines, pleural changes, consolidations, and diaphragmatic motion. Conditions studied include fluid-based disorders such as pleural effusion and pulmonary edema; lipid-based processes such as pneumonia and tuberculosis; gas-related pathologies including pneumothorax and subcutaneous emphysema; and structural disorders such as atelectasis and diaphragmatic dysfunction. Vascular assessment of the pulmonary artery and cardiopulmonary interactions are also introduced. Hands-on training includes bedside lung scanning, pleural and vascular evaluation, artifact interpretation, and case-based simulations, preparing students to apply pulmonary ultrasound effectively in acute, outpatient, and preventive care settings.
