Course Description
DMSVTD 390 | Lymphatic Ultrasound & Vasculature (Spleen, Thymus, Tonsils, Adenoids, Bone Marrow) Total: 40 Hours | E-Lecture: 12 Hours | E-Lab: 12 Hours | On Site Lab: 16 Hours This course provides a detailed examination of the spleen and its vascular supply using ultrasound imaging techniques. Students will develop proficiency in identifying normal splenic anatomy, evaluating vascular flow patterns, and detecting splenic pathologies such as trauma, infection, and hematologic disorders. The curriculum also extends to the assessment of the peritoneum, reinforcing a broader understanding of abdominal anatomy and pathology. The course highlights the spleen's critical role in immune function, detoxification, and systemic circulation, emphasizing how lymphatic drainage, nutrition, and environmental exposures influence splenic health. Students will explore the impact of oxidative stress and inflammation on the spleen and learn how ultrasound can aid in early detection of immune-related conditions. Through hands-on training and case-based learning, students will refine their ability to perform accurate diagnostic evaluations while considering factors that influence splenic and immune system function within the body.
