Course Description

DMSVTD 510 | Introduction to Pediatric Ultrasound Total: 40 Hours | E-Lecture: 12 Hours | E-Lab: 12 Hours | On Site Lab: 16 Hours This course introduces the fundamentals of pediatric ultrasound, focusing on age-specific considerations, anatomical variations, and common pathologies encountered in neonatal and pediatric imaging. Emphasis is placed on the safe and effective application of ultrasound in children, recognizing differences in tissue composition, developmental stages, and hemodynamic patterns. The course covers neurosonography, including the evaluation of the neonatal brain through fontanelle windows, assessing conditions such as intraventricular hemorrhage, hydrocephalus, and congenital anomalies. Additional topics include abdominal ultrasound for pediatric organ assessment, musculoskeletal imaging for developmental disorders, and the evaluation of the thymus and other endocrine structures relevant to pediatric care. Students will gain hands-on experience in scanning techniques, protocol development, and image interpretation, preparing them to perform accurate and non-invasive pediatric ultrasound examinations while minimizing patient discomfort and optimizing diagnostic outcomes.
