DMSVTD 610 | Introduction to Adult & Pediatric Echocardiography Total: 20 Hours | E-Lecture: 6 Hours | E-Lab: 6 Hours | On Site Lab: 8 Hours This course introduces the fundamental principles of echocardiography, focusing on basic cardiac anatomy, function, and ultrasound imaging techniques. Students learn to obtain and recognize standard cardiac views including parasternal long axis (PLAX), parasternal short axis (PSAX), apical four-chamber, apical two-chamber, and subcostal views. Emphasis is placed on image orientation, chamber identification, and the assessment of global cardiac function, including basic estimation of ejection fraction (EF). Through lecture and case-based learning, students develop an understanding of cardiac structure, blood flow, and common patterns associated with normal and abnormal findings. Online lab activities incorporate AI-assisted image analysis and interpretation to reinforce pattern recognition and functional assessment. On-site lab sessions provide hands-on practice in image acquisition and probe positioning, allowing students to develop foundational echocardiographic skills within a guided learning environment. This course provides a focused introduction to cardiac ultrasound, preparing students to understand core imaging concepts and their role in evaluating cardiovascular health.
