Course Description

DMSVTD 560 | Introduction to Gastrointestinal Ultrasound in Pediatrics & Infants Total: 20 Hours | E-Lecture: 8 Hours | E-Lab: 8 Hours | On Site Lab: 4 Hours This course introduces gastrointestinal ultrasound in pediatric and infant populations, emphasizing developmental anatomy and the sonographic appearance of common pediatric gastrointestinal conditions. Students learn to recognize normal and abnormal findings and understand how growth and physiology influence imaging interpretation through lecture and case-based learning. Online lab activities focus on image analysis, pattern recognition, and clinical correlation. On-site lab sessions provide hands-on ultrasound experience using general and vascular scanning applications, supporting the development of fundamental scanning techniques while reinforcing pediatric gastrointestinal concepts. This course provides a foundational understanding of gastrointestinal imaging in pediatric populations and its role in supporting early detection and clinical assessment.
