Course Description

DMSVTD 550 | Introduction to Gastrointestinal Ultrasound in Adults Total: 20 Hours | E-Lecture: 6 Hours | E-Lab: 6 Hours | On Site Lab: 8 Hours This course introduces the principles of gastrointestinal ultrasound in adult patients, focusing on the sonographic appearance of abdominal organs and common gastrointestinal conditions. Students learn to recognize normal anatomy and identify patterns associated with conditions such as inflammation, obstruction, fluid collections, and other abdominal abnormalities through lecture and case-based image review. Online lab activities emphasize image analysis, pattern recognition, and clinical correlation. On-site lab sessions provide hands-on ultrasound experience using general and vascular scanning applications, allowing students to develop foundational scanning skills while reinforcing gastrointestinal concepts through real-time imaging. This course provides a foundational understanding of gastrointestinal ultrasound and its role in non-invasive assessment of digestive health.
